Exclusion Survey
A certified technician carries out a full external and internal survey of the property, methodically checking every potential entry point — brickwork gaps, pipe penetrations, air bricks, drain covers, soffits, fascias and ground-level cracks. Every finding is documented in a written report.
Material Selection
Based on the survey, we select the correct materials for each entry point. Stainless steel mesh is used for larger gaps. Rodent-deterrent expanding foam is used for pipe and cable penetrations. Solid mortar and cement are used for structural gaps in brickwork and foundations.
Professional Proofing Works
All identified entry points are sealed using professional-grade materials. Stainless steel mesh cannot be gnawed through by rats or mice. All pipe penetrations are sealed to the pipe with no gaps. Air bricks are fitted with internal stainless steel mesh behind the existing grille.
Certificate & Warranty
On completion, we issue a written certificate detailing all proofing works carried out, materials used and locations sealed. Most pest control companies offer no warranty on proofing works, or a maximum of 6–12 months. We offer 2 full years because we are confident in the quality of our materials and workmanship. We use only professional-grade stainless steel mesh, rodent-deterrent foam and solid mortar — not DIY-grade materials that fail quickly.
Do I need proofing if I have already had a treatment?
Strongly yes. Treatment eliminates the current infestation but does nothing to prevent new rodents entering through the same routes. Without proofing, re-infestation is almost inevitable, particularly in properties with active drains, neighbouring infestations or ground-floor entry points.
Can rodents really not get through stainless steel mesh?
Correct. Brown rats have teeth strong enough to gnaw through mild steel, aluminium, wood and plastic. Stainless steel mesh at the correct gauge is the one material they cannot penetrate. We use only professional-grade stainless steel mesh — never plastic or standard wire.
Will the proofing work look unsightly on my property?
No. All materials are finished neatly and — where required — colour-matched to the surrounding surface. Mortar fillings are pointed to match existing brickwork. Stainless steel vents are low-profile and unobtrusive. We take care to ensure all works are as neat as possible.

How long does a proofing survey and works take?
A survey of a standard 3-bedroom semi-detached property typically takes 1–2 hours. The proofing works, depending on the number of entry points identified, typically take a further 2–4 hours. We will give you a firm time estimate after the initial survey.
